The second generation netbooks are finally here. Samsung, Asus, Acer, HP, and Dell announced their new models last year and have started shipping them worldwide in mid-Feb 2009. And they have raised the bar again by going upscale with features like:

  • Minimum 10.1-inch LCD display
  • Optional 3G or WiMax broadband connection
  • 6-cell high capacity Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery
  • Improved graphics power
  • Larger solid state drives (SSD)

Consumers in a down market are looking for affordable Internet devices to maintain their lifestyles. They are purchasing these portable Internet devices to complement their laptops rather than replacing them. And they are buying the concept of small form factor, ease of Internet access, and affordable pricing. ABI Research is predicting a market explosion for netbooks over the next few years with worldwide shipments of nearly 35 million this year, rising to an estimated 139 million in 2013.

The New Samsung NC20

Samsung decided to pass on the Intel Atom processor and went with the Via Nano and Chrome9 HC3 integrated graphics for better performance. Most manufacturers still use the Atom processor along with the somewhat dated graphics chipset. The Nano loads HTML, XML and JavaScript pages faster than the Atom.

It also ups the netbook ante by going with a glossy 12.1-inch 1280 x 800-pixel WXGA display instead of the standard thus making it more in the class of an ultra-portable notebook.

Externally, the NC20 looks very much like a bigger NC10. The keyboard is now a whopping 97 percent versus the 93 percent found in the previous model. This is still the largest size available for all netbook models and accommodates almost all hand sizes.

Interestingly, the NC20 has a display viewing angle of about 150 to 160 degrees horizontally and 90 degrees vertically. This comes in real handy when playing back 720p and 1080p video content. The device handled these multimedia formats easily without overtaxing the processor – the Via Nano and Chrome9 processor did an excellent job.

This could be the perfect multimedia portable Internet device and destined to the best mini-notebook of 2009. That’s two years in a row…

Samsung NC20 FAQ:

Question: Is a Samsung NC20 Laptop okay to buy for my sister?
I want to buy a good, fast laptop for my sister to do her school work on. The only downside side is that it doesn’t have a CD drive I don’t think? Does anyone know how to get around this?

Answer: Simple, plug in an external CD drive into one of the USB ports whenever she needs to do something that involves a CD.

Question: What do you think of Samsung mini laptop especially new Samsung NC20?
I am interested in the Samsung Mini laptop. However, all the Dell, Acer, MSI and Sony are so popular in the US, I rarely heard about the Samsung mini laptop.

Answer: The Samsung NC20 is a new 12.1″ screen “netbook” that follows the very successful Samsung NC10 (10″ screen) netbook. One significant difference is the processor. The NC20 uses the Via Nano as opposed to the Intel Atom. The NC20 is slightly larger than the NC10 due to its 12″ screen and it weighs a little more – about 3.3 pounds with the 6-cell battery. Battery life appears to be about 3 to 5 hours depending on specific usage. As with all other netbooks, the NC20 does not have a built-in CD or DVD drive. As such, you will need to install/load software using an external (USB) drive or via a shared network drive.

Question: Watching DVD’s on a Samsung NC20 Netbook?
Does the Samsung NC20 offer enough performance to watch a DVD comfortably. I plan to upgrade the unit to 2GB of Ram and just needed to find out if it was worth buying an external DVD drive or not.

Answer: You can definitely watch a DVD on the NC20. If you plan on having it on a desk, rather than your lap, the external drive would be a great addition. Otherwise, you’re going to have a usb drive that has to tag along everywhere you go.

Battery life will also take a hit with the external drive as well.

Question: Samsung NC20 Netbook?
I am considering getting a Samsung NC20, but I am undecided on what colour. What do you recommend? And also, do you think it is a suitable size for typing up essays etc.?

Answer: Black I reckon, white looks slightly cheap and plasticky.
It is perfect for typing up essays, although the battery is not the best. It does have one of the best all round performances of a netbook however, but its quite expensive for a netbook.

Cheaper, longest battery life, just as nice keyboard, get an Asus 1000HE, but the graphics and processing performance is not as good.

Question: Which mini-laptop/netbook is better, Packard Bell DOT MA 020 or Samsung NC20?

Answer: Samsung! Packard Bell, who is actually HP, have had nothing but horrible products and was the reason why they agreed to sell out to HP who saved their futures and dissolved the company.

Question: Does Gimp run on a netbook like a Samsung NC20?
I’m looking for a netbook that makes it easy to work while on the go. I also want to edit my photographs with GIMP.

Answer: I have Acer Aspire One with XP Home. I installed “GIMP” some time ago and, well… not so great. It runs alright on basic functions like image fix (cut, crop, resize, change, color/saturation, red eye, etc…) but on image animation function it is very slow.

I switched to “Paint.NET” it has all the functions of “GIMP” and it runs perfectly, and it’s also free.

Question: What’s a good amount of RAM to have for a college laptop?
I was wondering if 1 GB of RAM would be passable for my needs, which include typing up composition papers, taking an online psychology class, and perhaps some mild gaming to fill in the off hours. Right now I’m looking at the Samsung NC20.

Answer: If you can upgrade your memory, then I would do so. I think you would be looking at under $25 to go to 2Gig. Getting additional memory is your biggest bang for the buck when it comes to speed. As long as you are not going to do hardcore gaming or stuff like that on it, everything else should be fine.

Question: Laptop or netbook for schoolwork?
I need a portable computer for word processing and web browsing for research. This will be used strictly for my schoolwork – I don’t need a second powerful computer. Would a netbook suit my needs, or should I go for a full-fledged laptop? I have considered getting one of the 12-inch netbooks (Lenovo S12 and Samsung NC20).

Answer: A netbook would suit your needs.

A couple other important things for you to consider are how important battery life is to you, how big of a screen do you want, and what type of operating system you plan to use.

If you really want long battery life, I would recommend getting a smaller sized netbook. I’m not sure how big of a screen you are looking for, but the Acer Aspire One has great battery life and also a 10.1″ display. It has enough power to do all of the things that you had listed. It has the necessities of built in Wi-Fi, built in webcam, Windows XP instead of Vista and so on. It also has a pretty affordable price that is in the range you listed.

Dell Latitude D430 FAQ:

Question: Dell latitude d430 how do I turn it on?
The battery light is on but I can’t seem to get it on. Is the power button on the side?

Answer: Yes, the power button is on the right side; it is a round gray button. After you press that button the computer should come up and you should be able to see the Dell logo on the screen. Make sure that you have connected your AC Adapter.

Question: Does anyone know how to run a diagnostic test on my laptop (Dell Latitude D430)?
I am unable to even get on to the log in screen of my machine. I just got a blank blue screen.

Answer: Assuming you bought your computer brand new from a shop, your dell computer should have come with a disc in the set of Dell discs from when you bought the machine. On my Dell dimension desktop machine it’s the Dell Resource CD, on yours it should be a similar disc.

Question: I need a wireless driver for my “Latitude D430″ dell laptop that is NOT “intel PROset/wireless”, any ideas?
When I use the driver I have, it won’t let me connect to my home network, it will only let me reconfigure the network (which I do not want to do).

Answer: Your FIRST course of action is to go to the dell website and see if they have a wireless driver for your laptop model (I guarantee they do). If the one they offer is the one you are having trouble with… it is possible it is not being used properly?

You could always use the windows zero configuration application instead of the bundled wireless software to connect–it is quite easy to use.

Alternatively, open up the mini-pci cover on the back and get the part number for your mini-pci card–google it and download drivers directly from the manufacturer. If THAT doesn’t work, you’re out of luck

Question: Do the dells latitude d410, d420, d430 have 32-bit CardBus slots?

Answer: Not as far as I can find, they appear to have smartcard slots.

Question: How do I stop my laptop from beeping?
When using my laptop on plane or other “quiet” space, I mute the sound. However, Outlook, Word etc continue to make annoying beeps when they ask you a question about whether you want to save a file, etc. Is it possible to turn this off? Dell Latitude D430 running Office 2003.

Answer: Instead of muting it, just turn the volume all the way down.

Question: Which Dell Latitude Tablet is best for business?
I need to order a new laptop computer for work and due to our contract with Dell, I am restricted to choosing between several Dell Latitude Tablets (XT, D630, D430, ATG D630, and XFR D630). I primarily use my laptop for mobile presentations to groups between 30-100 people. My presentations consist of Power Points, short videos, and a few Word and Excel documents. I also use my laptop for simultaneous web casts. My current laptop is NOT a Dell, and I just have no basis for determining the best option. Hard drive space is not really a factor because the majority of my information is stored on removable devices. Would love some advise and direction. Pros and cons?

Answer: For business look at a few factors; warranty, and cost. Your mobile and it’s for your business. If your too cheap, you will find yourself with a failed hard drive or something because they saved the money on the part that stabilizes the hard drive while moving.

Spend a few extra pennies, get the high end one or you may lose a sale one day when you show up at a customer and can’t present because your gear sucked.

Don’t worry about actual specs so much, they will all do pretty much the same thing. Keep the focus on reliability.

Question: Is there an adapter for new dell laptop hard drives to SATA or USB?
We use a lot of dell laptops, Latitude D420’s D430’s etc. I’d like to be able to hook them to a SATA-USB Adapter that I have to recover data sometimes. But the drive’s only connector seems to be a ribbon cable that runs into the motherboard. Is there a way to convert this to a standard SATA connector somehow?

Answer: You can easily buy this kind of adapter on Ebay. Try to search for “1.8 drive adapter”. You can choose the best solution for what you need – I still prefer the 3.5 IDE.

Question: Anytime both my wife or I connects to our home broadband router (SKY) we both usually get disconnected?
I have a DELL Latitude D430 and she has a Sony Vaio NR. Is there a setting I can change on one of the laptops? I was thinking that maybe they are both trying to use different types network (B and G) and the router gets confused and resets? I have no idea though this is just a guess.

Answer: Go to start, control panel, network connections, right click on the connection (wireless or local) and click properties, scroll down and double click on internet protocol and make sure their set on auto get ip.

Toshiba Satellite Pro FAQ:

Question: Can I install a graphics card in a Toshiba Satellite Pro.?
I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300D-132 and I like to install a new Nvidia 8600Gt is this possible?

Answer: No. As far as accelerating your laptop graphics goes — unfortunately its shopping time for a new laptop. Laptops don’t have normal graphic card slots. 99.9 % of laptops have their graphics soldered onto the motherboard, and the very few machines that use Mini-PCIe cards for graphics, I have seen no aftermarket Mini-PCI-e cards available at all.

Question: How Many Hours Can A Battery Last For An Toshiba Satellite Pro A60 Laptop?
I have a Toshiba satellite pro A60 laptop and the battery is basically done and I want to buy a new one but I can’t find any information about how long the A60’s battery lasts after full charge.

Answer: With all the battery management stuff turned on a laptop should last anywhere between 45 mins and 3 hrs with a fit battery.

Question: How do you install ram in a toshiba satellite pro 490cdt?
I did find one partial diagram from a ram manufacture but I’m not totally sure if it is totally right.

Answer: For most laptops they will have letters next to each screw on the bottom. Look for the ‘M’ letters next to the screw. If that doesn’t work then go for the removable panel toward the middle; this is usually were the memory is. Chances are there are either one or two screws to remove and then the memory itself is clipped in. There will be two clips on each side of the memory holding it in and if you pull them away from the memory then the module will pop right out.

Question: How to install a wireless connection in Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200’s laptop?
I was just given a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4200’s laptop and would like to use a wireless connection. From what I found out there is no wireless built-in. My friend gave a D-Link AIrPlus 2.4 GHz wireless cardbus adapter but it seems like there is no input for it. What should I do?

Answer: There should be a “cardbus” slot on the side of the laptop, it may currently have a cover on it. It is possible that your Pro 4200 does not have the “optional” card reader.

Question: What’s largest capacity hard drive for Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 Laptop?
Need to upgrade to larger hard drive. Would like highest capacity drive that’s compatible with Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 Laptop.

Answer: I would recommend a 250 Gb though it can support up to 400Gb.

Question: How to reboot Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 Series w.o recovery discs?
My friend has a toshiba satellite pro L300 series laptop with a windows xp software. She wants to reboot it but doesn’t have the recovery discs. Is there a way to do this manually?

Answer: Do you really mean reboot and not reinstall?

To reboot, you do not need the recovery discs. Just press the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys to reboot the computer. If the system has hung up then it can’t be rebooted. You will have to hold down the power switch for several seconds until the system shuts down. Then switch it on again.

If you need to reinstall, you will need the recovery discs. Reinstallation can be done manually without the recovery discs, but you will need to have the Windows XP CD & license key, and all the drivers for the notebook.

Reinstalling it manually can be done, but there may be several components which will not be recognised as the XP CD may not have the drivers, such as network adapters, video adapters, audio device, etc.

You will also not get back all the utilities that came with the original installation such as touchpad drivers and utilities, etc

Question: Does anyone know if I can upgrade memory on my Toshiba Satellite Pro L100?
It has around 448mb ram and I am looking to upgrade this to around 1 or 2gb.

Answer: I am assuming that you have 1 x 512mb RAM in it, but you could have 2 x 256 RAM in it also. Grab a screwdriver and open the port on the bottom of your laptop where your RAM is located and you should be able to tell how many sticks you have and how many it can hold. Just by the model I would say it can hold 2 sticks and up to a maximum of 1GB or 2 x 512mb sticks.

Question: How can I access the internet from a toshiba satellite pro model 460cdx?
I can’t use a regular cord because there’s no spot to put it. Do I have to use wireless?

Answer: These are relatively OLD laptops, and if I remember correctly, they were not made with either ethernet or wifi. To use the internet you will need either an ethernet card or a wifi card. If you have a wireless router you can just add a wireless pcmcia card. If you only have an ethernet router you can add an ethernet pcmcia card.

You will have to add one or the other to connect to the internet.

HP Pavilion DV6-1030US FAQ:

Question: XP drivers for HP Pavilion DV6-1030US?
I’m trying to find suitable drivers for Windows XP for HP Pavilion DV6-1030US.

Answer: Go to the hp website. Look for your model number and all your drivers would be there.

Question: Is HP Pavilion DV6-1030US any good?
I am a post grad student and in desperate need of a new laptop, currently using Fujitsu Siemens and been with me for 5 yrs, never liked it because its just TOO HEAVY AND UGLY! I need a laptop mainly for: microsoft program use; word, power point, excel. And for intensive internet surf and use of PDF files and downloads, music, movies or documentaries.

Answer: Its an awesome computer for the uses you have said. Surfing, Word documents, music, movies – that it can handle very easily. Its powerful processor is quite fast, and you will have a big enough hard drive to store movies, music etc. But if you are going to play any high graphic 3D games like Counter-strike or Halo, you might not get the total experience – a minuscule amount of lag, a little bit of blur, but that’s it – that’s the only con – a suckish graphics card for 3D stuff.

Question: I need to factory restore my HP Pavilion dv6-1030us?
Apparently, I am finding out NOW, that HP recommends that as soon as you get your shinny new laptop out of the box you should make a recovery disc, but who turns on their brand new Computer for the First time and says, oh! I must make recovery discs! That’s crap. Isn’t there someway I can factory restore it without a disk??? Internet explorer and Fire Fox keep locking up or crashing and this is my last effort before I exchange the notebook.

Answer: Have you just installed something? Then you can go into system restore (I know this is available with XP) and tell windows to restore to a point prior to the latest installed software. I had to do this before and it totally fixed my issue. They I had to research the software some more. I did reinstall the software and did not have the issue again.

Question: What kind of RAM would I use for HP DV6-1030US Pavilion Notebook?
I have a Pavilion dv6-1030 us notebook. I currently have 4 gig of ram but am trying to find out how much it would cost to upgrade to the max the computer can handle (8 gig as it is 64 bit).

Answer: 4gb DDR2 ram is heaps expensive and the difference in performance is going to be next to nothing. 64 bit vista does support 8gb of ram but if you want more power out of your computer a better processor is the answer, which for a laptop means getting a new one.

Question: What should I do to fix this problem?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1030us. I recently downloaded the update for the bios. Now, I can’t turn on my computer whenever I try to. No lights turn on and I can’t hear the system either. Is there anyway to fix this. Also, I bought this computer 2 months ago and I have a 1 year warranty. So, does that mean that I can have this problem fixed for free?

Answer: When you updated your BIOS was their any problems during the process like: the pc froze or power failure etc? If you flashed the BIOS and a problem like that happened then your board is probably screwed. Contact HP or the store you bought it from and see if they can repair it.

Question: Which laptop is better an hp pavilion dv6 1030 or a 1050?

Answer: The 1050 is better because of the faster processor, better video card, and more hard drive memory.

Question: Which of these three laptops works best for a graphic design student?
I’m a graphic design student and I’m choosing between these three laptops: HP – Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6400, Acer Aspire AS5735-6694 Notebook PC, HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook PC. I know mac computers are the best, but I can’t afford one right now.

Answer: HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook PC specs are the best. Don’t forget that if you order a mac directly from apple.com you can get a student discount and customize it.

HP tx2000 Tablet FAQ:

Question: I have an Hp Pavillion tx2000 (tablet laptop) I bought a new pen & it won’t work? What do I do?
I broke my old stylus (pen) and I just can’t figure out what to do.

Answer: Take your Notebook to OfficeDepot where they should have an older model of Tablet on display. Test the display stylus on you’re PC. If it works, then the one you bought was probably faulty. Unless you got it directly from HP. If that’s the case, you’ll have to return it or have it replaced.

Question: Would the HP Pavilion TX2000 tablet PC be perfect for:
- gaming?
- multi-tasking?
- digital art working?
- entertainment?
- work assignments?

Answer:
- Gaming: Not really, but it can with older games. Tablet PC’s aren’t made with gaming in mind.
- Multi-tasking: Pretty good thanks to lots of RAM, but the CPU isn’t that great these days.
- Digital art working: Yes, it’s a tablet, and with the right programs it can become your trusty sketchpad.
- Entertainment: Yes, it doubles as a normal laptop, so it will have no problems playing back video, music, and extend with other devices.
- Work assignments: Yes, it’s a laptop!

The only downfall of the TX tablets is heat thanks to the AMD CPU. If you don’t mind the heat, you have yourself a pretty nice tablet PC.

Question: HP Tx2000 Tablet?
I’ve just got this laptop and I found it a little bit slower when starting up windows. Also with some programme and mutli task. Mine is 2.0 GHZ and 2G ram, 64bit windows vista. Would updating the ram to 4G help? Where can I find cheap ram?

Answer: Unless you are doing a ton of stuff or using high level programs 4G probably will not help. You can check by pressing ctrl-alt-del, choosing task manager, and looking at the performance tab. If you are not using more than 2GB of memory than more memory will not increase performance.

Question: How do I turn the tablet mode of my HP tx2000 to off?
It takes up a lot of memory and sometimes I don’t use it but want to use it later.

Answer: Hit your start menu, right click Computer, click Manage (hit continue if a security pop-up comes up). On the left side of window, hit the little arrow next to Services and Applications to expand it. Then click on services. Scroll all the way down to “Tablet PC Input Service”, right click that, hit properties. Choose startup type “Disabled”, then Reboot. And whenever you choose to use your tablet again, just set it back to “Automatic”.

Question: HP Tablet Notebook TX2000 Z Series: Glossy Screen. Options for being out on sunny days?
I am worried that it will be useless outside and will have to much glare no matter what. Am I right? I am attracted to this computer for what appears to be its capacity for handwriting recognition and drawing applications.

Answer: Using a matte finished screen protector can really help cut down glare when outdoors, making the screen easier to see.

I highly recommend TabletPC’s over laptops if you’re looking for portability and have used my old TC1100 for several years. Why be limited to just keyboard input? And there are many artists, cartoonists, etc at the Buzz that can help with artist program choices.

Question: Hp tablet tx2000 touch screen?
I recently downgraded my tx2675ee from vista to xp, but I can’t find handwriting and on screen keyboard of this model which works nice on vista, for using on xp platform. Is there any version of that software for xp?

Answer: You’ll have to get Windows XP Tablet PC edition probably. Or you could legally download the Windows 7 beta (It’s faster than XP).

Question: Does HP Pavilion tx2000 notebook tablet pc have wifi internet?

Answer: Yes, in fact it even has an optional WiMax add-on.

Question: HP Pavilion tx2000, what are the cons and pros?
I was thinking about buying the HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet pc / notebook hybrid tmr for university studies this coming winter. So, what are your opinions about the positives and negatives of this laptop in terms of performance and convenience?

Answer: The tablet writing recognition is exceptional and the extra features such as the media remote or the finger print reader is definitely a plus. However, the tx2000 gets very hot, and I know computers generally don’t do too well against heat. Also, the load time is pretty slow. It took a couple minutes for my computer to get loaded completely even before I put any software or anything on it.

The battery life is also pretty good if you get the 8 cell battery. To boil it down, the tx2000 lives up to it’s ultra portable reputation at 5.something pounds, but like any laptop, it has its flaws: the heat and load time.

Question: How do I connect a Sony Vaio Laptop to a Phillips TV?
I have Sony Vaio laptop and I have tons of movies on it. I want to watch these movies on a TV screen. My TV is a regular TV not LCD flat or anything. How do I connect it so I can watch the movie I have on my laptop on my TV.

Answer: Your best bet is an s-video cable and an audio cable I think. First, examine your laptop and TV, go on the internet, and figure what ports they have. Then go to a local best buy or something and describe it to the salesperson. They should point out the correct product. Another way is to buy a separate computer monitor and hook it up to that. It is much easier.

Question: What is better for the battery life of a Sony Vaio laptop?
I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop yesterday and fully charged it. Now my question is: Is it better to take the laptop off the charger and use it ’till the battery is fully empty and then charge it again. Or is it better to just keep it plugged in the charger when I work on it (at home)?

Answer: Most batteries these days are L-ion (lithium ion). They have a special memory which cuts the battery life short.

If you get your laptop charger and keep charging it at half way. If you do this for a long time (a few months) the battery will get used to getting charged at half way and the battery will just basically fall to 0 when it was supposed to be at halfway. This is hard to conquer in a laptop because you are constantly moving it around.

My advice is – Only charge it when it’s VERY low like about to die, but if you REALLY need it charged then do it. Just don’t do it too often.

Question: Does Sony Vaio laptop have screen protective film preinstalled on them?

Answer: No. They have no factory preinstalled films. You should buy one.

Question: Does anyone have a Sony Vaio laptop who can tell me where to put in the memory card from my digital camera?

Answer: Do you have a built in card reader in your laptop? If not then you will have to buy an “all-in-one card reader with USB connection” to connect to your laptop. Check out your local computer shop, it’s a very common item.

Question: What type of router should I use for the Sony VAIO laptop?
I just purchased a Sony VAIO laptop. It has a built in PC card and I was wondering what type of router should I use to get this online?

Answer: If you only have the one computer , you don’t need a router. Just plug directly into your modem. Linksys, Dlink, or Belkin are very reasonable and dependable. Whichever is most readily available and best price.
If you are planning on wireless get a wireless modem from your provider or you can get any of the above in a wireless version.

Acer Mini Laptop FAQ:

Question: Can an acer mini laptop 2008 run a complex game program like world of warcraft?
My step-dad bought a new little mini acer and I thought it was pretty neat, so I was thinking there cheap and maybe I could buy one, but I would like to know if it can run the certain programs I use all the time, such as world of warcraft, or adobe photoshop.

Answer: No mini laptop can handle complex game, sorry. They don’t have the memory, the proccessor or the graphic’s card. Mini laptops are nice in size, but better suited for searching the net and word processing and probably listening to music.

In order to handle warcraft you need a gaming laptop.

Question: Can I connect my xbox 360 to an Acer Aspire One mini laptop with an ethernet cable?
And will the online game speed be good or bad? And is the laptop fast with its internet and wifi?

Answer: If these laptops have xp or vista installed it can be done via connection sharing. All you have to do is connect the xbox 360 to the ethernet port on the acer laptop and bridge the connection between the ethernet and wireless connections and then allow the connection to be shared on your wireless one’s. If these acer laptops have anything other than windows xp or vista than I am afaird that it may not be possible.

The games online should not lag.

Question: Help with acer mini laptop webcam?
I have an Acer mini laptop with a built-in webcam and I was wondering if anybody knew how to make videos on it for free.

Answer: If you go to a place like download.com you’ll find plenty of free software to do that.

Question: Acer Mini Laptop Computers?
I have a Acer Laptop that I just got about a month ago and it is them mini ones. When I open another page, like when I am playing a game, the screen is too small and won’t fit. It is like I can’t move it up or down.

Answer: When you open up your game go to the options, and then go to graphics(or video or w.e) and change the resolution to a smaller size, the native resolution (the size of the window) must be too big for ur screen, so if you make it a smaller resolution you can have it fit.

Question: Acer mini laptop warranty question?
I purchased a new Acer mini laptop approximately a month ago from a local computer store. The computer now won’t charge at all. The guy at the computer store said that some kind of board went bad, possibly through a power surge although they are unsure. They said that this will cost me $100.00 for parts to fix. Does Acer not offer a warranty for a computer that is only a month old?

Answer: They do have a warranty. You will have to contact Acer support directly. You will more than likely have to pay shipping, however, they should fix it for free.

Question: What do you think about the acer 8.9″ mini laptop?
I already have a laptop but I was thinking about getting a new one and wanted to know if the acer 8.9″ laptop is a good one. I like how it’s tiny so I just wanted to know if it works alright.

Answer: Yes it will be great IF you only want to use it for surfing the web and such.
If you want to store movies or songs, this one just does not cut it. With only 1GB of ram and 160GB of memory its truly only good for surfing the web or watching movies on the go on it.

Question: I have an Acer One mini Laptop. I Just got it and I was wondering if I could add memory to it?
It also says in my User guide that I can add a 3g sim card for 3g connectivity. What does that mean? Also it has a place for “Multi-in-one card reader” What is that?

Answer: Your mini laptop is capable up to 1.5GB of ram maximum. So if you purchase the standard 1GB ram then you can still add another 500MB DDR2 SDRAM.

For the 3G, if you have a mobile phone from your GSM provider supporting 3G connectivity, you can use it’s sim card to connect to the internet, this is what it means, but I’m not sure about it having a sim card port. Usually you can use a 3G phone to act as a modem to access the internet in your laptop.

The multi-in-one card reader helps you to read memory card from your cellphone, camera, videocam like SD, MMC, Memory Stick/Memory Stick PRO, and XD Picture Cards without the need of an external USB card reader.

Question: I have a ACER mini laptop 8.9 inch. It has a built in camera, microphone and speakers. I lost my instruction booklet and I need to find out how to use the camera for taking pictures of myself and whatever else I can do with it.

Answer: Go to the acer website and go to support. Find your computer and it will have a list of hardware and software updates and usually they have the instruction manual (usually in pdf format) up there too.
