When you compare two laptops of diverse classes, it’s a challenge because because of the different needs that they cater to. Knowing what these differences are would be useful for the consumers. For this review, we will take a closer look at the similarly priced Asus K50IJ-RX05 and HP Mini 311. Both are priced below $500, with the Asus K50IJ-RX05 having a tag of $420 and the HP Mini 311 having a price of $400.

The purpose of this review is to make comparisons for the benefit of those that are mainly looking at the price range when selecting their desired laptop. This is similar to the weight classes of boxing, which limit certain fighters from fighting each other. However, there is still the list that compares them to each other pound-for-pound and in terms of skill and achievements. For laptops, we will compare them using their specifications and capabilities. Since the Asus K50IJ-RX05 and the HP Mini 311 belong to the same price range, let us see what each of them can give to the consumer.

Asus K50IJ-RX05

The K50IJ-RX05 is Asus’ contender in this price range. At first look, the consumer can see that this laptop has for its brain an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200. This is an older technology compared to the Core 2 Duo as well as the Core i7 found in most laptops. Users may think that this puts the K50IJ-RX05 at a disadvantage; however, the 3-gigabyte memory bank available to the user still helps the unit perform excellently in multitasking.

Due to the Asus K50IJ-RX05’s Intel GMA 4500 media accelerator, the Asus K50IJ-RX05’s monitor can perform at a resolution ideal for HD viewing as well as for multi-tasking.

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 is also beefed up when it comes to hard disk space. You can store as much as 360 gigabytes worth of files here. This is more than enough space to store movies, music, and other files deemed important by the user. The hard drive is backed up by readers for memory sticks, multimedia cards and SD memory cards, as well as an optical drive and four hi-speed USB drives.

Users will be delighted to know that the K50IJ-RX05 is able to last slightly under four hours without being plugged to the power outlet.

Specifications:

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core T4200

RAM: 3 GB DDR2-800 SDRAM

Screen Display: 15.6 inches

Resolution: 1366 x 768 WXGA

Dimensions: 14.6 inches x 10.1 inches x 1.4 inches

Weight: 5.7 pounds

Disk Space: 320 GB Serial ATA-150 – 5400 RPM

Optical Drive: DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM

Battery Life: 3.8 hours

Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Pros:

Design-wise, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 can certainly turn heads. Sleek and slim (with dimensions of 14.6 inches x 10.1 inches x 1.4 inches), the laptop has a bronze-black paint job that makes it look professional and not seem like it’s entry-level. Aside from being one of the thinnest there is on the market, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 is also very light at 5.7 pounds.

The Asus K50IJ-RX05 has an ergonomic keyboard, big enough for touch-typing. One’s hands can easily spot the touchpad because it is well integrated to its chassis.

Able to last a long time without AC power, the Asus K50IJ-RX05 is still able to give out a satisfactory performance even though it has older technology powering its operations as compared to other laptops in its class.

Cons:

The weakest point in the Asus K50IJ-RX05’s design is that its specifications are fixed and cannot be upgraded. This is unfortunate, especially since the buyer will be stuck with the graphics media accelerator.

HP Mini 311

Unlike the Asus K50IJ-RX05, the HP Mini 311 is a netbook. It has for its processor an entirely different technology: The Intel Atom N270. Running at a clocked speed of 1.6 GHz, the Atom N270 is supported by 1 gigabyte of RAM. For storage, users have 160 gigabytes with which to put their files in. Needless to say, the HP Mini 311 does not have an optical drive.

The HP Mini 311 stands out among other netbooks due to its graphics card that makes for a better display.

The HP Mini 311 has impressive dimensions for an 11-incher. It measures 11.46 inches x 8 inches x 1.2 inches, and is 0.2 inches thinner than the Asus K50IJ-RX05. It is also very light at 3.22 pounds. Its chassis is loaded with several features including three USB ports, a 5-in-1 digital media reader, RJ-45 network connectivity port, VGA and an HDMI port.

The Mini 311 features a black-on-silver finish. The keyword and the touchpad are both silver. The keyboard is ergonomic; however, the touchpad is not as impressive as the keyboard is.

The HP Mini 311 has a battery life of 5.5 hours.

Specifications:

CPU: 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270

RAM: 1 GB DDR2 1066MHz

Screen Display: 11.6 inches

Resolution: 1366 x 768 WXGA

Dimensions: 11.46 inches x 8 inches x 1.2 inches

Weight: 3.22 pounds

Disk Space: 160 GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive

Optical Drive: None

Battery Life: five-and-a-half hours

Graphics: Nvidia Ion LE GPU

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP and Windows 7

Pros:

The HP Mini 311 still offers a satisfactory performance for the user. With a 1.6 GHz processor backed by a gigabyte of random access memory, the 311’s capabilities are rounded out by the graphics support provided by the Nvidia Ion LE GPU. This makes it capable of seamless graphics editing which other netbooks cannot do. The graphics card also allows for excellent HD viewing, as well as some medium-core games.

The specifications also allows for multi-tasking, where the user has several programs running simultaneously.

Cons:

The HP Mini 311’s biggest disadvantage is its delay in booting up. Aside from that, some users will have difficulty with maneuvering the touchpad.

Conclusion:

In the end, what matters is what you need these laptops for.

If you are looking for portability and better support for graphics processing, the HP Mini 311 would be ideal for your needs. However, if you prefer hard drive muscle and media support while traveling, you are better off buying the Asus K50IJ-RX05.

Laptops comparison of Asus K50IJ-RX05 and HP Mini 311 is all about their specification and valued features. You must check Laptop Comparison for other laptops and netbooks.

Asus vs HP :FAQ

Question: Which brand is better asus vs hp?
which brand is better, asus from taiwan or hp from usa? I heard that hp uses asus parts?

Answer: It depends on what parts in the HP your are interested in…ASUS makes good mother boards. HP does use some asus parts also some Foxconn, VIA, and others. HP assembles computers from USA not necessarily makes the parts here but then again so does Asus! If your considering a complete computer, just look at the spec. and get the one with the most of the newest tech.

Question: Asus vs Hp Screen for photoshop
So I am going to buy a new laptop soon. I have narrowed down my choices to an Asus M50VM-A1 or an HP dv5t. I wanted to know which of the 2 have the best screen since I do alot in photoshop and watch alot of movie.

Answer: Both have great screens – I own an ASUS W3J and an HP dv6500t, and I have no issues whatsoever with graphics work or videos. Either one should be fine. Unless you’re doing work that requires serious color accuracy, the difference in the screens isn’t going to matter – and if you are, you wouldn’t be using a laptop screen for that kind of work anyway (you’d want an external monitor with color calibration and extreme contrast).

Question: Asus vs HP, which laptop is better?
HP $749.99
Asus $649.99
Is the extra money worth it for the HP over the Asus? Will I notice much of a different between he two since they are basically the same specs only the HP looks newer.

Answer: Just had a quick 10 sec look and the ASUS seems to be a superior machine slightly, although the HP is more popular…. I would go for the ASUS.

Question: HP vs ASUS (home computer)?
Which is better for gaming ASUS or HP and why?

Answer: It completely depends on what the specifications for each PC is. The brand has no bearing on how well it performs.

Question: Hp 1001tu vs Asus Eee PC 1000H, which is a better mini note?
I’m interested in buying one, but I am unsure which is a better machine.

Answer: I would go for Asus, HP might look better or more shiny than the Asus, but i would be more concerned about the performance and also Asus is more reliable than HP.

Question: HP 2133 vs Asus eee pc 901, what’s the better?
They have the same size:8.9-inch. Do you like hp 2133 or asus eee pc 901?

Answer: Eee 901 for sure. The HP is pretty and well-made, but it is saddled with a slow-poke VIA processor and the strangely-positioned mouse buttons. Performance will especially suffer if you get a Vista version of the 2133. The 2133 also tends to run hot. The Eee 901 uses the new Intel Atom processor and is available with XP.

Question: HP (Hewlett-Packard) Mini 311- 1025NR Netbook vs Asus Eee PC 1005HA- Which is better?
Which do you think is better? The Asus is small, I’m not sure exactly how big 11 inches would be with the HP, but the HP has better graphics apparently, and I would like to at least play facebook games on it and maybe some browser games. Nothing Major. Would it be able to handle this? Opinions on both would be awesome.

Answer: Asus Eee PC 1005HA is better. This 10.1-Inch Black Netbook sports impressive 10.5 Hours of Battery Life.

There’s 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 Processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 250GB SATA Hard Drive, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and Windows 7 Starter Operating System.

Question: Which is the best netbook?
HP Mini 110 vs. Asus EEE 1005 vs. Acer AOD250 Android. I need Windows 7, but I love the idea of downloading apps on Android. I need a webcam, good battery life, and a nice computer. Which is the better computer in general. I wanna be able to surf the web download games etc.

Answer: You will not be able to do gaming on a Net Book, slow processor, limited ram and poor graphics/video chip set and more.

The Windows 7 Starter is not a full featured operating system (limited), the processor is slow, limited ram memory (1 GB), no CD/DVD drive, no internal modem.

Net Book: slow processor speed, poor video graphics, not for any gaming, small screen (eye strain), small down sized key board, limited ram memory, most of all no CD/DVD drive.
Good for surfing Internet and basic work, light and portable.

Lap top: full featured, larger screen and key board, faster processor, more ram memory, better video/graphics, better sound audio, larger hard drive, works wireless or wired and more.

HP Pavilion DV6-1030US FAQ:

Question: XP drivers for HP Pavilion DV6-1030US?
I’m trying to find suitable drivers for Windows XP for HP Pavilion DV6-1030US.

Answer: Go to the hp website. Look for your model number and all your drivers would be there.

Question: Is HP Pavilion DV6-1030US any good?
I am a post grad student and in desperate need of a new laptop, currently using Fujitsu Siemens and been with me for 5 yrs, never liked it because its just TOO HEAVY AND UGLY! I need a laptop mainly for: microsoft program use; word, power point, excel. And for intensive internet surf and use of PDF files and downloads, music, movies or documentaries.

Answer: Its an awesome computer for the uses you have said. Surfing, Word documents, music, movies – that it can handle very easily. Its powerful processor is quite fast, and you will have a big enough hard drive to store movies, music etc. But if you are going to play any high graphic 3D games like Counter-strike or Halo, you might not get the total experience – a minuscule amount of lag, a little bit of blur, but that’s it – that’s the only con – a suckish graphics card for 3D stuff.

Question: I need to factory restore my HP Pavilion dv6-1030us?
Apparently, I am finding out NOW, that HP recommends that as soon as you get your shinny new laptop out of the box you should make a recovery disc, but who turns on their brand new Computer for the First time and says, oh! I must make recovery discs! That’s crap. Isn’t there someway I can factory restore it without a disk??? Internet explorer and Fire Fox keep locking up or crashing and this is my last effort before I exchange the notebook.

Answer: Have you just installed something? Then you can go into system restore (I know this is available with XP) and tell windows to restore to a point prior to the latest installed software. I had to do this before and it totally fixed my issue. They I had to research the software some more. I did reinstall the software and did not have the issue again.

Question: What kind of RAM would I use for HP DV6-1030US Pavilion Notebook?
I have a Pavilion dv6-1030 us notebook. I currently have 4 gig of ram but am trying to find out how much it would cost to upgrade to the max the computer can handle (8 gig as it is 64 bit).

Answer: 4gb DDR2 ram is heaps expensive and the difference in performance is going to be next to nothing. 64 bit vista does support 8gb of ram but if you want more power out of your computer a better processor is the answer, which for a laptop means getting a new one.

Question: What should I do to fix this problem?
I have a HP Pavilion dv6-1030us. I recently downloaded the update for the bios. Now, I can’t turn on my computer whenever I try to. No lights turn on and I can’t hear the system either. Is there anyway to fix this. Also, I bought this computer 2 months ago and I have a 1 year warranty. So, does that mean that I can have this problem fixed for free?

Answer: When you updated your BIOS was their any problems during the process like: the pc froze or power failure etc? If you flashed the BIOS and a problem like that happened then your board is probably screwed. Contact HP or the store you bought it from and see if they can repair it.

Question: Which laptop is better an hp pavilion dv6 1030 or a 1050?

Answer: The 1050 is better because of the faster processor, better video card, and more hard drive memory.

Question: Which of these three laptops works best for a graphic design student?
I’m a graphic design student and I’m choosing between these three laptops: HP – Pavilion Laptop with Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6400, Acer Aspire AS5735-6694 Notebook PC, HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook PC. I know mac computers are the best, but I can’t afford one right now.

Answer: HP Pavilion dv6-1030us Notebook PC specs are the best. Don’t forget that if you order a mac directly from apple.com you can get a student discount and customize it.

HP tx2000 Tablet FAQ:

Question: I have an Hp Pavillion tx2000 (tablet laptop) I bought a new pen & it won’t work? What do I do?
I broke my old stylus (pen) and I just can’t figure out what to do.

Answer: Take your Notebook to OfficeDepot where they should have an older model of Tablet on display. Test the display stylus on you’re PC. If it works, then the one you bought was probably faulty. Unless you got it directly from HP. If that’s the case, you’ll have to return it or have it replaced.

Question: Would the HP Pavilion TX2000 tablet PC be perfect for:
- gaming?
- multi-tasking?
- digital art working?
- entertainment?
- work assignments?

Answer:
- Gaming: Not really, but it can with older games. Tablet PC’s aren’t made with gaming in mind.
- Multi-tasking: Pretty good thanks to lots of RAM, but the CPU isn’t that great these days.
- Digital art working: Yes, it’s a tablet, and with the right programs it can become your trusty sketchpad.
- Entertainment: Yes, it doubles as a normal laptop, so it will have no problems playing back video, music, and extend with other devices.
- Work assignments: Yes, it’s a laptop!

The only downfall of the TX tablets is heat thanks to the AMD CPU. If you don’t mind the heat, you have yourself a pretty nice tablet PC.

Question: HP Tx2000 Tablet?
I’ve just got this laptop and I found it a little bit slower when starting up windows. Also with some programme and mutli task. Mine is 2.0 GHZ and 2G ram, 64bit windows vista. Would updating the ram to 4G help? Where can I find cheap ram?

Answer: Unless you are doing a ton of stuff or using high level programs 4G probably will not help. You can check by pressing ctrl-alt-del, choosing task manager, and looking at the performance tab. If you are not using more than 2GB of memory than more memory will not increase performance.

Question: How do I turn the tablet mode of my HP tx2000 to off?
It takes up a lot of memory and sometimes I don’t use it but want to use it later.

Answer: Hit your start menu, right click Computer, click Manage (hit continue if a security pop-up comes up). On the left side of window, hit the little arrow next to Services and Applications to expand it. Then click on services. Scroll all the way down to “Tablet PC Input Service”, right click that, hit properties. Choose startup type “Disabled”, then Reboot. And whenever you choose to use your tablet again, just set it back to “Automatic”.

Question: HP Tablet Notebook TX2000 Z Series: Glossy Screen. Options for being out on sunny days?
I am worried that it will be useless outside and will have to much glare no matter what. Am I right? I am attracted to this computer for what appears to be its capacity for handwriting recognition and drawing applications.

Answer: Using a matte finished screen protector can really help cut down glare when outdoors, making the screen easier to see.

I highly recommend TabletPC’s over laptops if you’re looking for portability and have used my old TC1100 for several years. Why be limited to just keyboard input? And there are many artists, cartoonists, etc at the Buzz that can help with artist program choices.

Question: Hp tablet tx2000 touch screen?
I recently downgraded my tx2675ee from vista to xp, but I can’t find handwriting and on screen keyboard of this model which works nice on vista, for using on xp platform. Is there any version of that software for xp?

Answer: You’ll have to get Windows XP Tablet PC edition probably. Or you could legally download the Windows 7 beta (It’s faster than XP).

Question: Does HP Pavilion tx2000 notebook tablet pc have wifi internet?

Answer: Yes, in fact it even has an optional WiMax add-on.

Question: HP Pavilion tx2000, what are the cons and pros?
I was thinking about buying the HP Pavilion tx2000 tablet pc / notebook hybrid tmr for university studies this coming winter. So, what are your opinions about the positives and negatives of this laptop in terms of performance and convenience?

Answer: The tablet writing recognition is exceptional and the extra features such as the media remote or the finger print reader is definitely a plus. However, the tx2000 gets very hot, and I know computers generally don’t do too well against heat. Also, the load time is pretty slow. It took a couple minutes for my computer to get loaded completely even before I put any software or anything on it.

The battery life is also pretty good if you get the 8 cell battery. To boil it down, the tx2000 lives up to it’s ultra portable reputation at 5.something pounds, but like any laptop, it has its flaws: the heat and load time.

Question: New HP Laptop problems (HP Pavilion dv9700t series)?
I just got my new HP laptop a week or so ago and I’m having some problems with it. Up to this point, everything was working flawlessly, no problems at all. Then, I inserted the Kodak picture CD to upload the pictures to my documents and I had to restart to officially install the Kodak program, but it never fully restarted (it won’t even go to the login page). I’ve tried all the restore options, but as you know, you have to restart to make it work but I still have the same restart issues. I have no idea what to do!

4) Select Safe Mode & let the PC boot
5) Once it’s back up (It’ll take longer than usual and look different), shutdown then PC and reboot it normally.

Answer: HP Pavilion dv9700t series would be a lot better. They come with hardware that is powerful and cheaper than what the Dell Inspiron 1720 series would offer. With the HP, the default video card is very powerful (you can even use it for gaming) and the processor is also good (2.0GHz dual-core at default, which is very fast for what you are doing). Get the HP laptop.

HP Notebook FAQ:

I just got my hp notebook and it has the software for a fingerprint reader on it but I can’t find the actual reader. On the demo it shows it below the keyboard but there isn’t one here.

Question: How does Apple Airport Extreme Wireless adapter USB work on my HP notebook?
Currently, I installed Mac OS X in my HP pavilion dv 2130us. I am not able to go online because my wireless card does not work for Apple system. I found an item called “Apple Airport Extreme Wireless adapter USB” in ebay. I wonder if it will work without setting up a Airport Extreme Station. Does the adapter can get my notebook go online with normal PC router setup?

Answer: How do you have Mac OS X installed on your HP system, unless you did it with the illegal OSx86? If you did, which you must have, then there is no guarantee that anything will work with it, because it is hacked software and has little security.

I recently purchased the notebook and know that its X64 compatible, however I don’t want to purchase a new license to install an X64. Will it be possible to use the same key that came with my notebook for the X86 to install then X64? I have already activated my Vista!

Answer: No. The key is for that specific version only. If you had a Retail copy of Vista, then the key would work for both.

The HP Pavilion G60-230US 16.0-Inch Laptop has everything one can dream of and more. Its powerful specs and brilliant display makes it the perfect laptop for gamers and those who often use their laptops for editing videos and graphics. One of its biggest selling points will have to be its huge 16″ screen. It is a WXGA high-definition screen powered by an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M that uses shared video memory, producing crisp and clear visuals. It runs on Intel Clear Video technology that delivers clearer and more detailed video playbacks with powerful color controls. In short the HP Pavilion G60-230US is the ultimate video and graphics machine when it comes to laptops. This model is a favorite among many professional video editors and animators.

The spacious 320GB of storage is more than enough for the average laptop user.

The HP Pavilion G60-230US runs on a 2.0GHz Intel Pentium T4200 dual-core processor that translates to high computing speeds. With this powerful processor, you can run multiple heavy tasks (such as running a virus scan and playing a game) all at one without any noticeable lags. It also has 3GB of RAM that ensures that all your applications run smoothly without a glitch.

Like most full-sized laptops, the keyboard on the HP Pavilion G60-230US has 101 keys including several quick-launch buttons for playing music and videos. It comes with Microsoft Home Vista (the Home Premium edition) and several other HP media softwares. Like many 16″ laptops, this model may feel a little heavy, but in my books, it is a small price to pay in return for powerful specs and a seamless computing experience.

HP Pavilion Questions & Answers

Question: Hp pavilion?
hi, i have a Hp pavilion zv6000 for almost a year now, And i experience this problem that occurred in recent weeks. My laptop started to lagg when I’m trying to watch a online movie, like youtube. Also sometimes it laggs by itself when i keep the laptop on for a little while. I scanned for viruses and spyware and it didn’t seem to be the problem, and i tested my laptop uploading and downloading speed at www.speedtest.net and here are the results
7028kb/s downloading
1760kb/s uploading
Sometimes it doesn’t lag and sometimes it lagg and i cant do anything, like my whole computer is slow and laggy, i cant cancel the window because it takes so so long. And when I’m playing a not online full screen game, it did the same thing, i play it for a couple of minutes and it was fine, then it started to lag and i cant do anything. I usually shut down my computer after that. It like my whole laptop is slow and laggy.Anybody know any way to fix it? thanks a lot

Answer: Your Internet speed is better than most of us, so I don’t believe this is the area of problem.

I recently upgraded my RAM memory to 1GB and it help speed my old HP Pavillion ZD7000. I went to http://4allmemory.com to get the RAM upgrade. HP wanted $1,200 vs $94 with this vendor.

If your problem is the video card there is not much you can do in a laptop since this can’t be upgraded. In my Laptop I have 128MB, but 256MB or 512MB would be better for games.

Although you ran some tests to check for spyware, adware, malware, and viruses sometimes these tools can’t detect them.

I recently got infected when I went to a UK site to watch an online movie. I used sysinternals autoruns to check what programs were loading at boot time and kill all that I could not recognize or was label as a security risk when search on the net.

I used ProcessExplorer, ProcessMonitor, and TCPView from sysinternals to check what activity was occuring in my pc.

I detected I had the Vundo trojan and used several 3rd party tools found online to erradicate the damn thing.

I had to boot to safe mode (F8) and run Norton AV to pickup more trojans loaded in the system restore files, I used VundoFix to remove some nasty DLLs from the disk and registry, and removed Java from my machine to take out the portion of Vundo that loads into Java.

It has taken a lot of time, but I think I’m closer to be clean. Norton has been running in the morning at boot time, at noon, and night to double check. So far I have not seen another alert.

I hate those %@$#$ers that don’t have anything better to do than screw us when we enjoy the net by going to new sites.

Anyway, your option might be limited to more RAM and continuous defrag of the HD.

I usually re-install XP once a year or 1 1/2 years with a norton ghost image to clean all the garbage I install over time. This also helps with the nasty viruses.

Question: How can i open my HP pavilion laptop to get to the power jack?
I have a HP pavilion laptop. The thing stopped getting a charge from the power cord. I have checked and the problem is not with the power cord or the battery. I am certain it is the power jack. If I could get the laptop opened, my husband could fix the jack. However, we cannot figure out how to get the darned thing open. Does anyone know how?

Answer: There are several different models that could constitute a hp pavilion, so without knowing the specifics all i can point you toward is a resource guide like this http://simplyadapters.com/laptoprepair/guides

Question: Why will my HP pavilion laptop not start up?
HP pavilion laptop (dv2000) with Vista shows only black screen when turned on and makes a noise like a CD spinning – but no CD in drive. Could not shut down using task manager or any method other than manual shut-down. I have tried to restart 3 times but same response. Any suggestions?

Answer: make sure that it is not set to boot from cd drive. since the drive is spinning maybe the computer thinks that as soon as u turn it on that it should play directly from cd drive.

Are there any tricks or tips that will help me put back the key into the keyoard?

Question: How do you fix a beeping Hp Pavilion dv2000 laptop?
Well, I turn on my Hp pavilion dv2000 laptop and it makes 1 long beep and 2 short beeps. The light at the bottom left part of my laptop that shows that I’m charging my laptop is off, but the cord and cable is plugged into the correct sockets.
What’s the problem with my laptop and how do I fix it?
I’d appreciate all answers and opinions.

Answer: strangely, the beep error codes aren’t listed in the dv2000 manual.

I’d suggest removing the battery and only booting with one ram stick

If problem persists sadly you’ll probebly have to have HP diagnose it

Question: How money could you get for a hp pavilion 533w?
I am trying to sell my old computer hp pavilion 533w how much is it worth?

Answer: can you tell a person over the phone you have a car of that model if he or she would like to buy it? you need to tell us how old the pc is what specs it have like hard drive size. the amount of ram it have the cpu it have and the speed and the condition of the pc. if you have pictures of it that may help as well.

Question: How much does it cost to replace a laptop keyboard for HP Pavilion?
I just bought my HP Pavilion dv6700t and is under the one year limited warranty. Hair iron was accidentally placed on top of my laptop keyboard and unfortunately HP told me it doesn’t cover the warranty. Although it doesn’t affect the function, it is ruined now. I checked with HP and they told me the repair would be $289 and it will take 7-9 business days. I think it is too much money. Can anyone help me?

Answer: I don’t understand why you can’t just purchase the laptop keyboard from hp and replace the keyboard yourself. On most laptops the keys pop out so that you can clean underneath them. Geek Squad is sooo overpriced! I used to work at Best Buy and my boyfriend used to work in the computers dept. there as well. Look on the net for how to take out keyboard for cleaning. If you can do that then you can probably replace it yourself. What people don’t understand is that they can do many computer repairs themselves, especially software installation. Just don’t throw your money down the drain by paying for something that you can possibly do yourself.

HP Laptops Questions & Answers

Question: HP Laptops?
Does anyone know if HP laptops are reliable and good computers. If not, what would you say is the best laptop for a college student.

Answer: Consumer Reports’ June issue has reviews of laptops. You could visit their website and see if there’s any helpful info in the free portion of the site. (www.consumerreports.org.) You might consider subscribing to the online magazine… year-round there’s lots of good informaton.

CNET.com is also a good place to check for editor’s reviews and picks.

We’re a family of Dells and IBMs (now Lenevo) and have been reasonably happy with both.

Consumer Reports’ “QUICK PICKS” for PCs indicated the following “BEST VALUES” –

Best values:
Toshiba Satellite A135-S4427 $900
Acer Aspire AS5610-4537 $850

Both are very good overall, among the lightest Windows laptops, with very good ergonomics and average battery life. Toshiba’s reliability and tech support are undistinguished; we don’t have enough data to rate Acer’s.

IN THE FULL ratings, the two HPs they rated were on the bottom end of the scale, but not ranked so significantly behind the others that you wouldn’t consider them. Here’s a comment they made about the HPs and why they scored a bit lower…

The HPs that scored Good had a few drawbacks. Their glossy touchpads weren’t centered with the keyboard and fingers didn’t glide smoothly across. Also, their cases required two hands to open and batteries were inconvenient to remove. They also ran warmer than average.

Question: Why do the batteries in hp laptops suck so much?
i have a an hp myself and im only able to get about 2 hours out of it while browsing the net. ive also heard stories about other hp laptops having crappy batteries. is it just because they give you laptop with a crappy half-assed battery or do the laptops just take alot of power?

Answer: ok, hps have the blue voume lights, and etc. lenovos dont, so they have more power, because they dont power as much

Question: What is the difference between HP laptops and HP Pavilion laptops and which laptop do you recommend?
I am interested in buying a new laptop but don’t know which one to get. My last two desktop computers have been Compaq but was recommended an HP Pavillion at Office Depot last week.

Answer: HP Pavilions are the entertainment line of notebook, so they include lots of multimedia features. I have a Pavilion DV6000 and it has great entertainment features like webcam, good speakers, trubrite display etc. I would reccomend one of these if you are a multimedia user. But if not you would probably save some dollars on a compaq because it has less features.

Question: How to shut off blue webcam light on hp laptops…?
Does anyone know how to shut off the blue light that comes up the hp webcams on the laptops?

Answer: It’s hardwired on, For security reasons such as someone installs a trojan on your computer that will monitor you, This can tell you as a warning.

You can technically break the LED or cover it up, but use caution as it’s best to just leave it alone.

Question: Are HP laptops good for everyday use and for schoolwork?
I am going to buy a laptop soon and I was thinking about an HP one. Should I go for a different brand? My budget is about 650 dollars, but I still want a really good computer to last me all through high school. Does anyone have negative comments about HP computers or any positive feedback? Should I go for it? Please respond!

Answer: HP is very good. im on a HP laptop right now. ive had it since August 08. it has Windows Vista and i absolutely love it. you should also have enough money. mine was 500 something.

Question: Does anybody know of a free site to compare toshiba laptops to hp laptops?
I have had hp computers before and like them but know nothing about toshiba. Trying to get some info to purchase a laptop.

Answer: well the best thing to do is compare them base on the specs such
how fast the cpu? how much ram does it have? how big the hard drive?
does it have bluetooth? does it have N draft wireless card? what size of the screen? what Operating system does it come with?

the key thing to look at really is warranty. They both offer 1 year warranty some has 3 years. But however Toshiba is better when it comes to warranty there’s more authorized service centre compared to HP. Basically if you have an issue with Hp you have to send it out to them and it can take between 3-5 weeks of course it all depends on the availability of the parts if required. With Toshiba take it any authorized shop someone to talk to one one one rather then being on the phone. And it will be closer to your location.

So if service is important to you I suggest Toshiba. Regardless if you go with HP or Toshiba they both offer quite similar specs.

Question: Are Mac laptops worth the extra money compared to a HP?
I can get a HP laptop thats pretty good for about $700, but for a Macbook or Macbook Pro i’d be spending over $1000. Is Mac worth all that money? Ive heard you dont get computer viruses and theyre better computers. Is it true? Is it worth spending $1600 to get a Macbook Pro??

Also, is it ok to get a refurbished one? Theyre ALOT cheaper.

Answer: THe base level macbook is a good price and a better laptop than a $700 HP one, faster better battery life springs to mind

As for the virus thing , macs (especially in laptop form) are getting moe popular and as capable of getting viruses as windows pcs its just there are not many out there at the moment but they will come, the fact that you have to provide a password to install programs is a good secrity measure but won’t stop user stupidity

As for reliability my macbook is 7 months old , the keyboard never worked properly from new the top case cracked at both sides near the track pad (the keyboard and topcase have been changed now) and my magsafe connector had to be replaced also

Oh and don’t think about using a lot of flash applications on the mac without it becoming a space heater

I love my macbook but my vista desktop is as good if not better

Question: Are HP laptops and desktops still only using proprietary peripherals?
Someone had suggested to me years ago not to buy HP products because they would only run HP printers, HP scanneres, etc. Was that true? Can I run any printer, or router on an HP laptop?

Answer: No, what the person might have been talking about was like graphics cards, hard drives, mostly the internals in the box. Actually, HP would use any printer, scanner, camera’s.
